Congrats to Parker Coffin for winning the 14 and under division at the Rip Curl Pro Grom Search in Puerto Rico! Parker won on his 5’8″ MBM.

Also congrats goes out to Koa Smith who also rode his magic CI to a win in the 16 and under division and wins the prize of a famed trip to Bells Beach next year to compete in the 16 and under.

Costa Mesa, CA (November 2, 2010): The 2010 Rip Curl GromSearch National Final presented by H2O Overdrive made history yesterday, as the event commenced in conjunction with the Rip Curl Pro Search ASP World Tour event “Somewhere in Puerto Rico”.

With a stacked field of 32 of the nation’s top talent, the ultimate stage was set to unveil a glimpse into the future of surfing. A mere hour after Stephanie Gilmore defeated Carissa Moore in the final of the women’s World Tour event portion and claimed her 4th consecutive World Title, the groms were in the same line-up, battling for National Final glory.

In the Boys 12/under division, Seth Moniz (HI) absolutely blitzed the final, notching two mid-7 scores to fend off a surging Jacob Davis (CA), who had just claimed the H2O Overdrive Maneuver of the Event, with a backside air reverse and $250.

The 14/under boys arguably put on the most impressive display of surfing through the entire event. Parker Coffin (CA), Ian Gentil (HI), Koa Smith (HI), and Seth Moniz (HI) all went blow-for-blow throughout the 20 minute showcase. Coffin, who notched the single highest scoring wave of the event (9.0) winning $500 compliments of The Room, laced together another 2 excellent waves to hold off Gentil during the final moments of the final.

“I’m really stoked,” stated Coffin during the awards ceremony. “It was a great experience surfing with all the guys who are on .”

Quincy Davis left nothing to chance. She wanted to go to Bells Beach, Australia to compete in the Rip Curl GromSearch National Final over Easter. Quincy went on a tear in the Girls 16/under finals, notching two mid 8 point rides, to not only win the event, $500 cash, an all-expenses paid trip to Bells Beach, but she also won the Dragon High Heat Total of the day, nabbing an iPad for the efforts.

The Boys 16/under saw the tightest battle of the entire comp. With a trip to Bells on the line, prize money, and the prestige of making the National Final Champion list alongside names such as Nat Young, Kolohe Andino, Alex Smith, amongst others. When the dust settled, both Koa Smith and Colin Moran held on to identical heat totals (12.6). However, Koa had a higher single scoring wave, which gave him the edge on the countback, the National Final street cred, $500 cash, and the experience of a lifetime.

“I can’t wait to go to Bells,” Koa stated. “I’ve never been there, and my brother had the chance to go to compete in the same event. Should be an awesome experience, and I’ll be looking to make Hawaii proud in the International Final.”

Big thanks to all the GromSearch sponsors and supporters: H2O Overdrive, Dragon Alliance, Power Balance, Bubble Gum, SURFING Magazine, Surfline, Fuel TV, and Wahoo’s.
