The Dumpster Diver
Curious to what Dane Reynolds has been tearing apart Trestles’ open faces on during the Hurley Pro? Wait no longer… Read on!
So Danes been seen ripping it up on a little stubby wide real basic design 5-7 1 /2 19 1/2 2 3/8 flyer type thingy throughout trestles. Here’s the skinny ! We shaped a short stubby square tail for Dane to ride in Mexico on his quiksilver photo trip with Kelly and Julian about two weeks ago .It was nicknamed Dumpster Diver because we literally had to wrestle the garbage man for the old yellow square block of eps foam that we were about to toss. This board was shaped out of that raw blank of foam by hand. The machine was down that day so or we would of cut a stubby version of the flyer on it to achieve basically the same concept but had no choice but to do it this way.
He came back from his trip saying that all he rode rode was this board , (the Dumpster Diver) and didn’t even try any of his shortboards .He had a blast on those mushy days , but there was a few things he wanted to change to make it better . These changes needed to be made if he was to use it at the Hurley Pro at Trestles . it was also to dinged up from six hour sessions , he had completely beat down the deck where the 3/4 patch ended from landing airs. ( check photo of him and the huge heal marks .. ouch! Though it was extremely fast he said It caught a bit of edge on cutbacks , he also wanted to narrow up the nose and pull in the tail a bit to resemble a normal shorty. The second generation dumpster diver II , has these updated changes and was dropped off to Dane the night before the event started . He rode it for the first time in his heat last Sunday and , won the expression session on it Tuesday. Not sure if its anywhere near completed as I’m sure there is plenty more direction from Dane to come , but damn he looks like he is having fun on it to me. More to come…
Check out what Dane has to say about the board on Hurley’s site.
